Under the thousands of submissions I listen to on a daily basis, I often find a couple gems that send me into a euphoric state that I never want to escape. Although it is hard to re-create this feeling at times, there are always these certain types of artists that make me feel like a kid in a candy shop when listening to their songs. That is the kind of high a chase everyday. I want to be so impressed by a song on the first listen that I go to the Earth’s end to find out more about the artist. This week I was blessed to come across and artist that has recently done this for me, and his name is Nemo Lakes (Tyler Simpson).
The Australian-Canadian is what I call a breath of fresh air from everything that I have been hearing lately. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kid Cudi, King Krule, Mura Masa, and Phantogram, the emerging singer-songwriter crafts songs that are built around angst, youth, and raw emotions elevated by cohesive sonics. Now, he is back with his latest single “NASCAR B.B.” and this single is absolutely ready for festivals.
On the first listen, I found myself wanting to mosh pit in my living room as I played air guitar and yelled at the top of my lungs. The song is that good. Sonically, it is laced with infectious guitar riffs and progression, and Nemo Lakes’ vocals are exceptional. He has this weird ability to evoke emotions with his vocal range, and his ability to stay in the pocket give the song a nice swing that’ll make you want to dance all night. Overall, this was a great introduction to his sound and this is a must listen so add it to your playlists!
