When it comes to music, I have always had a soft spot for artists that dare to be different. These kind of artists push our musical palettes, and they eventually allow us to orbit in their world. Although it is extremely hard finding artists that bend genres in favor of their own unique style, it is an amazing feeling when you immerse yourself in an artist that does. This week, our staff was blown away when we came across emerging singer-songwriter MYKA. With his roots that trace back to North Carolina, the LA-based artist has been making waves with his unconventional sound. Now, he is back with his latest single “american kids”, and it is the best thing we have heard all week.

With touches of influence from the likes of Kid Cudi, Kevin Abstract, and Teezo Touchdown, “american kids” is a must listen. The genre-fluid single is laced with warm-layered vocals, fuzzy basslines, and euphoric synths over expansive soundscapes. If you have ever felt like your youth is fleeting or if you feel lost, this is a song that will allow you to realize that we are all feeling it. MYKA does an incredible job evoking emotions that we all feel when we are stuck between dreaming and conforming. Overall, this song is a knockout so make sure to stream below and rock out!
