Canadian Indie-pop band, Ivytide, have been on a hot run this year with the success of their EP “please don’t sugarcoat it”. Between the essence of innocence and introspection in their songs, the band continues to put out sensible records that pull at their listener’s heartstrings. They are refreshing and every song is a different relatable journey. For me, although they are a band, I can tell they draw influence from artists like Dominic Fike, JAWNY, Verzache, and my favorite band Wallows. Now, they debut on our pages with their latest single “Brokeboy”.

Ivytide’s “brokeboy” captures the push and pull of a relationship; feeling loved at one moment but dejected at the next. Reminiscing about their early experiences together, the protagonist feels attached to their partner, but can’t help feeling tied down and jaded about the way they’ve been treated. The song expresses what remains unsaid in a relationship, telling your partner what you need and what you’re struggling with. Ivytide’s “brokeboy” blends their signature indie pop sensibilities with elements of their evolving singer-songwriter stylings.

“brokeboy” is the fifth single off of Ivytide’s upcoming debut album, building the momentum for their big release in Fall of 2023.
