As a writer, I have to listen to thousands of songs on a weekly basis. Although this can be tedious, there’s a high I get from finding hidden gems. For me, a hidden gem is a single that gives you goosebumps on the first listen. It’s a song that restores your faith in the music industry. A record that takes you somewhere mentally you haven’t been before. This week, I came across emerging singer-songwriter Hojean, and he impressed me with his latest single “Cruel”.

“Cruel” is beautiful indie-soul single that details the hardship from having unresolved feelings for someone. Hojean’s delicate vocals, spacious sonics, & emotive lyrics help paint the picture of his longing emotions. For me, the record is about finding closure. When it comes to relationships, I feel that we have all had someone that we couldn’t get over. Whether it was months or years after, we had to put on a good face to make it seem like we were doing better. However, all we wanted was a clean break where we got everything out and ended on lighter terms. Hojean’s latest record perfectly embodies these thoughts and emotions. With his latest project “Cherie” coming out September 21st, keep streaming this to prepare for one of the best EP’s of the year.
