Emerging indie-pop singer-songwriter, Eva Snyder, has become one of my artists to watch for 2023. Her sound is genuine, and she pens sensible records that are often relatable. As an artist, it can be hard to pull the curtains back on personal trauma & internal hardship. However, Snyder finds a way to face her past faults and issues on her records. She’s the true meaning of an artist, and she has continued to captivate listeners with her engaging sound. Now, she returns with her latest single “voldemort”.
For anyone that is a fan of Harry Potter, we know that Voldemort was the antagonist throughout the series. He was so feared that people would call him “he who should not be named”. On her latest single, Eva discusses a traumatic experience that later leads to her never saying that person’s name again due to the pain they caused. Instead, she calls that person “voldemort”.
The record is created entirely by women, and I find it very empowering. Over the warm synths, the single is laced with lush melodies, self-empowering lyrics, and an ear-worm hook that will make you want to find your own personal freedom. Eva Snyder continues to grow as an artist, and I’m happy to watch her shine!
