Trip Carter Looks For Forgiveness On His New Single “Excuses”

Over the last couple of months, I have kept a steady rotation of artists that I think are going to make a big impact this year. Although the list is pretty long, the artist I think has the most potential is Trip Carter. After seeing him perform on tour with Felly 6 years ago, I knew he had talent, but he has continued to shine as a solo artist over the last year. Now, he is back with his infectious hit “Excuses”.

For me, this has to be his best song to date vocally and sonically. Over the 2-minute runtime, Carter floats over the smooth sonics with captivating lyrics and lush melodies that will have you glued from start to finish. In my opinion, it feels like a modern day version of Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me”.

When it comes to the song’s meaning, Carter said, “This song is about being a full on fuck up. I wanted to make my own modern version of “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy. I always thought it was crazy that that song is so happy & fun even though it’s about a dude cheating on his girl and getting caught red handed. In theory, girls should hate that song. Lyrically, it’s about a type of guy that a lot of girls do not fuck with. But because it’s so damn catchy and relatable, everyone loves it and sings along to it. That’s the exact vibe I wanted to capture with “Excuses”. I’m not here to champion infidelity or cheating, I just know that a lot of people can relate to both sides of that type of relationship. So, I figured I’d write a song about it.”

Overall, the song’s relatability will have you keeping this on replay so make sure to add it to your playlists and vibe out.
