Erika Wester Impresses With Her Enchanting New Single “Wanted To Be Like You”

As a writer in the music industry, it is very often that you hear people and artists included say they have the song of the Summer. However, what defines the “Song of the Summer”? Is it the most popular song? Is it the song with a catchy hook backed by 808s that make you want to dance all night? For me, it has to be a song that makes me want to be around my bestfriends and drive around as the sun sets behind us. It has to be a song that brings every bit of nostalgia back to me in one perfect moment. This week, I was blessed to hear that very song from emerging singer/songwriter, Erika Wester, with her latest single “Wanted To Be Like You”.
“Wanted To Be Like You” is a breezy single backed by warm production and lush melodies that will keep you captivated over the song’s duration. Wester has always been one of my favorite songwriters, but she is exceptional on this single. She does an incredible job of putting together the juxtaposition of easy listening mixed with dark lyrics. Her vocals are often so soothing that you almost forget that the song is about putting someone you love on a pedestal, only to realize over time that they are not who they seem. For me, the captivating sonics mixed with the raw lyrics make this an unforgettable and timeless record that will stand the test of time. With that being said, stream the song below and vibe out.
