When it comes to music discovery, we pride ourselves on finding artists that we feel have the most potential to break barriers in an oversaturated musical landscape. Although we do hear a lot of “good” submissions due to this, we have recently found ourselves becoming more picky with what we want to cover. We are searching for those hidden gems that offer a refreshing and innovative touch to their music. As of recent, we were blessed to have found a diamond in the rough with emerging singer/songwriter Eleanor Kingston. The Utah-native is a complete breath of fresh air and her genre-bending sound that combines elements of pop, soul, and rock fuse into one thrilling alternative sound. Although we are new to her discography, she has recently impressed us with her latest single “Don’t Cry”.

“Don’t Cry” is a single that pushes genre boundaries and transcends traditional song structure. The HARRYWASHERE-produced single is full of captivating transitions, warm textures, thrilling build-ups, and the beat switch is insane. The way the single changes from a sweet ballad to a hyper-pop banger is just lovely. As the record builds, harmonious melodies transform the song from sad to euphoric then the production goes silent. Distorted melodies and a heavy 808 completely change the genre of the second half of the record which represents the ups and downs of our emotional spectrum as humans. Two polar opposite emotions, sadness & ecstasy, co-exist in this short song displaying the roller-coaster of emotions every person can feel on a day to day basis. This is what Kingston had to say about the song—-

“I think being a parent is the most selfless job in the world and a lot of single parent’s don’t want to burden their kids with their own problems. The beginning of the song is about the pain I saw my mom go through all alone while raising four kids as a single mom. When the song turns hyperpop I sing, “They say give a little more ‘til you pass out on the floor… They say here’s another chore, here’s another chore, Don’t care if you’re busy make your knees weak til you’re sore.” Bouncing on the 808, I sing about not getting a “thank you” while while they give so much so selflessly. I believe the best part of life is simply enjoying the moment and I wanted to provide a fun, electric anthem for people to enjoy on the weekend after working hard all week for their kids, jobs, etc.”

Overall, the single is one of our favorite releases of the year and Kingston has definitely gotten our attention. With that being said, if you are looking for a new banger to add to your playlists, then add this single!
