Lily Meola - “Without You”
Lily Meola has been one of the most polarizing artists this year. The Maui-born singer, songwriter and guitarist has garnered a dedicated fanbase due to her innate ability to craft introspective records that pull at listeners heartstrings. She is bold, daring, and real. Now, she enters our pages with her breakup single "Without You". "Without You" dives into the hardships and conflicting emotions that emerge from a breakup. There is always someone that ends up hurt or loses more from the break. Meola discusses these feelings over uplifting production. The juxtaposition of the uplifting production and moody lyrics allows listeners to find freedom even in the hardship that can be heard from the songwriting. So, stream the song below!
Nightvall - “Rocks”
If you could take the very best elements of Frank Ocean & Brent Faiyaz, you would get rising singer-songwriter Nightvall. Although I'm new to his discography, I haven't felt connected with an artist like this. He has this essence and aura that can't be replicated. His vocal delivery is otherworldly, and his songwriting evokes raw emotions. Now, he debuts on our pages with his single "Rocks". His latest record, "Rocks", is another testament to his maturity and exceptional ability as an artist. The record is an ambient alt-r&b fusion that you will want to keep on repeat. I have yet to hear a record like this. Nightvall is next up so add this song to your rotation.
SAINT KID - “COSTUME”
SAINT KID may be the industry's best kept secret. Hailing from upstate New York, the rising singer-songwriter has taken the industry by storm. His blend of Indie & Alt-Pop has made him an artist to watch. After catching my attention with his single "GARDEN", he has continued to grow as a singer & songwriter. Now, he fully has our attention with his daring single "COSTUME". "COSTUME" is a vulnerable record that examines a relationship where the two parties need to admit they are just better off friends. We all yearn for love at some capacity, and SAINT KID does an exceptional job in writing a single that conveys the feelings of realizing when there isn't anything more than a friendship. Stream the single below!
The Thing With Feathers - “Something Wrong”
If you are a fan of bands like The 1975, COIN, & The Kings of Leon, then you will love the angsty sound of The Thing With Feathers. The band is known for their electrifying alt-rock & indie-pop sound. Consisting of David Welcsh (vocals), Alex Hendricks (lead guitar) and Chris Roussell (drums), the band has turned industry heads with their ability to craft infectious records. For those of you who are still wondering who The Thing With Feathers are, I present to you their latest single "Something Wrong". "Something Wrong" is an edgy record laced with raspy vocals, engaging instrumentation, and an ear-worm hook. Sonically, I loved the arrangement and progression of the production. The songwriting is exceptional, and the vocal texture was perfect. Overall, this is one my favorite songs of the week.
Daffo - “Good God”
When it comes to music, there is a special high I get from finding records that take me back in time. As a writer, I'm always yearning to find timeless songs that allow me to re-experience the best moments of my life. Whether it's a song's production or the lyrics, the feel of being seen and connecting with an artist over something you both have experienced is a beautiful thing. Although it's hard to find records like this in an oversaturated industry, there are still artists that take pride in creating singles that truly take you there. This week, I came across emerging singer-songwriter Daffo, and they debut on our pages with their latest offering "Good God". "Good God" is an exceptional single that brings back all the nostalgia of the late 90s & early 2000s. The record has this youthful feel that reminds me of how we can be indecisive even in our 20's. Although I'm in my late twenties, I relate to a lot of these lyrics. Daffo is vulnerable, and the edgy songwriting sculps this song into a captivating masterpiece. "Good God" is a memorable record that makes me feel free. So, give this record a spin!
Fxrroh x cøzybøy x mookigang- “didyouevertrustme”
Hailing from the Chicago suburbs, Fxrroh is an artist that NEEDS to be in your rotation. With over 5 years in the industry, Fxrroh has built a dedicated following due to her innate ability to craft nostalgic hits that swing between folk & indie-pop. Her music is intentional, and it is carried by synth-driven soundscapes and exceptional vocal delivery. After impressing me with her single "oxygen", she arrives on our pages with her intoxicating record "didyouevertrustme" with cøzybøy & mookigang. "didyouevertrustme" is a must-listen for fans of indie-pop and anyone searching for an introspective song for late-night drives. Everything about this song is perfect. The vocal performances were sublime. Personally, their ethereal & dreamlike vocals create a beautiful balance with their production. Overall, Fxrroh has become one of my acts to watch for this year. She has my attention, and she should have yours as well!
