Hailing from Chicago, emerging dynamic duo, wellthen, have taken the industry by storm. They are raw, captivating, and they make heady indie-rock that will have you in a trance. Drawing inspiration from the likes of R.E.M, Radiohead, and The Foo Fighters, their sound is carried by bold guitar riffs, intricate drum rhythms, subtle coats of synth, and tender vocals. Their refreshing sound is enough to cleanse my soul from the oversaturation of soulless music I listen to on a daily basis. Wellthen are everything I want and more when it comes to music. Their attention to detail along with their sonics has impressed me since the first listen. Now, they enter our pages with the release of their new project “The demo EP”.

“The demo EP" offers a refreshing and authentic glimpse into the creative process, presenting a collection of tracks that feel raw, unfiltered, and bursting with potential. The EP opens with "this time," a track that sets the tone for the entire release. Its groovy production and intimate strings immediately draw listeners in, inviting them to experience the music in its purest form. The raw energy and spontaneity captured in this opening track serve as a testament to the EP's overall charm.

As the EP unfolds, tracks like "sides" and "the way it goes" showcase the duo's willingness to take risks and push boundaries. These demo recordings feel like musical sketches, capturing moments of inspiration as they happen. While they may lack the polish of a finished studio production, they more than make up for it with their honesty and authenticity.

One of the standout tracks, "heart of gold," captivates with its infectious energy and infectious melodies. Sonically, it was laced with warm guitar tones and an overall feeling of optimism. It's a testament to the power of raw, unbridled creativity, and it leaves a lasting impression long after the final notes fade away.

The EP closes with "Untitled Jam," a fitting conclusion to this musical journey. This improvised piece highlights the spontaneity and improvisation that are at the heart of the EP's concept. It's a reminder that sometimes the most magical moments in music happen when artists let go of their inhibitions and allow themselves to be fully present in the moment.

"The demo EP" may not be polished or refined, but that's precisely what makes it so special. It's a glimpse into the creative process, a snapshot of a moment in time when inspiration strikes and anything is possible. For fans of raw, authentic music, this EP is not to be missed.
