16-year-old wonderkid, Upamanyu Mukherjee, is the must-hear artist of the year.

Hailing from India, Mukherjee has been captivating a dedicated fanbase with his innate ability to craft infectious tunes that evoke raw emotions. Although he is still a teenager, he has continued to show his versatility as an artist, and his ceiling is high. His music is sincere, and his songs are laced with heartfelt lyrics and mesmerizing composition. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences, Upamanyu uses his piano & guitar skills to build sonically pleasing songs that push the boundaries. In my opinion, he is the true definition of an artist. He is daring, and he pushes himself to create innovative sounds that will have you captivated from start to finish. Now, he enters our pages with his debut album Negotiating Oxytocin.

Negotiating Oxytocin is a 7-track album that is a sonic journey through the innerworkings of Upamanyu Mukherjee. The album is cohesive at its core, and it has debuted at No.1 on the iTunes India Top 100 Albums Chart. The album catches the vibe of an entire generation, and I consider it an album for the lovers. It’s a fresh perspective carried by lovely composition, beautiful vocals, and mixing/mastering that truly enhanced the sound.

When looking into the creation of the album, we can’t look past the genius of Mukherjee. He produced and sang on the album while Onkar Tanske provided an incredible mix & master. My favorite songs from the album were “For You”, “Smithereens”, and “7:55”. “7:55” is a vulnerable single laced with soulful vocals and fiery rock-infused storytelling. For me, it is the turning point of the album (climax). “Smithereens” is an intimate record that is carried by one of the most earworm hooks I have heard this year. It is extremely infectious, and it will stay in your head well after the song ends. When it comes to the heart of the album, we can’t look over “For You”. “For You” is a piano led single that has beautiful lyrics, ear-catching harmonies, and vocals that will have you hooked.

Upamanyu Mukherjee is one of the most polarizing artists out right now, and I can’t look past his talent. He’s raw, genuine, and direct. He is an artist that deserves to be heard. With that being said, stream his album below and vibe out!
