Japanese indie band, The Rust, have been captivating listeners with their electrifying sound that deserves to be heard. The band is made up of two brothers, A+, the older, and Su the younger. The Rust has succeeded in carving a niche that’s both accessible and avant-garde. Known for their amalgamation of diverse genres, the brotherly duo debut on our pages with their new EP “The refrain never stops”. The 2-track collection is a sonic journey that I consider a sincere exploration of city pop. The sounds are warm, colorful, and they vividly depict the neon glow of Japan’s urban life.

The 2-track project shouldn’t be slept on. In addition, The Rust have shown their musical prowess once again. On the opening record “The refrain never stops”, the duo shares an elegant city pop tune that gracefully taps into the vibrant heart of urban Japan. At times, you will feel like you are in the crowded streets of Tokyo taking in the shimmering lights and the sound of traffic. The record is enchanting. Laced with lush melodies, modern textures, & heartfelt lyrics, the track stands as a testament to the growth and overall versatility of the duo.

The EP’s second track “beautiful world” shows the creativity and innovation of The Rust. The song is carried by an ethereal soundscape, thought-provoking verses, and melodies that will be stuck in your head well after the song ends. Lyrically, The Rust offer a unique perspective on life, love, and the world around us. The “B-side” shouldn’t be skipped due to the fact it is dynamic, captivating, & soothing. “beautiful world” blends elements of alt-rock, dream pop, & lo-fi into one beautiful sound.

When looking at the project, I have to say that The Rust outdid themselves. The EP is a subtle reminder of how talented they are. So, if you are looking for new music, stream this record below and vibe out!
