Pavy Keeps It Real On His Groundbreaking Album, “The Bachelor”

Although we are more than halfway done with summer, it feels like we are actually starting to heat up due to the number of fire releases coming out. On artist I have to highlight is Chicago’s very own, Pavy. Born Jonathan McCoy, Pavy has been leading the pack out of Chicago’s “South Side” since picking up a pen at 14-years-old. Unlike most of his counterparts, Pavy’s will to be the best has helped refine his sound into something truly special. He’s direct and his skills have allowed him to record with the likes of Lil Durk, BJ The Chicago Kid, Qualmes, & Vic Spencer to name a few. With a discography that can go head-to-head with any mainstream rapper, the emerging star debuts on our pages with his latest album “The Bachelor”.

“The Bachelor” is his fourth album to date, and it shows his growth as a lyricist and artist. Over the 9-track album, we see Pavy reflect on life as a single black adult man dating in the city of angels. His confidence is there, and he has the bravado to carry his lyrics out in style. From the various dating situations, potential love interests, and past flames to baring his true thoughts on bachelorhood, the project sure gives listeners a true insight into what makes Pavy tick. I really enjoyed this because this album offsets a lot of music we hear today. We hear about gang culture & getting a bag so much, but Pavy brings his innovative spirit to craft an album that discusses things that are more relatable from a listener standpoint.

“The Bachelor was a project I wrote from August 2021 to about September 2022. A lot of personal changes in my life happened in that period, from deaths in the family to moving out on my own to the world, basically opening back up "post-covid." The music that was created reflects all that but also of being a single adult man dating in LA. That's why you have songs named after restaurants or restaurants name-dropped throughout the album. I bared my soul & tried to be as honest as possible about the situations I was going through or the moments I was sharing with whoever I was sharing them with.” – Pavy

The standouts on the album for me were “Chicago Girl” & “Being Single Is Complicated”. “Chicago Girl” is a reflective tune about a past love from Chi-Town. We see Pavy reflect on the good times which provides the album a bit of nostalgia. “Being Single Is Complicated” is the opening track and sets the tone as Pavy brings us into his world and how he traverses the dating scene. Over the sombre and sublime backdrop, he shares a tale of a potential lover and their 6 degrees of separation. Overall, this is one my favorite albums of the year.
