Tahls Give Us Everything & More With Their New Album, “Thanks a Million”

Tahls is a band that deserves to be in your rotation. I wouldn’t call it an obsession, but they have recently impressed me. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, the five-piece alt-rock band has everyone at BOTD in a chokehold with how exceptional they are. Led by the versatile and multi-talented musician, Tahlia Amanson, the band has created a sound that can be described as nostalgic rock with elements of folk. When I listen to them, it takes me back to the late 90s & early 2000s. They are one of the most genuine sounding acts that I have heard as of late. The warmth and comfort I get from listening to them can’t be overlooked. I guess you can call it an obsession. Although I am new to their sound, they debut on our pages with their powerful new album “Thanks a Million”.

“Thanks a Million” is the culmination of talented vocals, great songwriting, and incredible production. I love how cohesive the entire record is. To give some background on the creation process, Tahlia pushed herself to create this album. Since 2019, Tahlia Amanson independently produced her music until her latest record, "Thanks A Million", where she drove to Memphis to work with producer Calvin Lauber. At Memphis Magnetic Recording Studios, Tahlia, Calvin, and assistant engineer Elijah Poston brought her vision to fruition. With a variety of synths and gear such as the old Big Muff from Electro-Harmonix, Calvin, and Tahlia created a fresh take on the 90s alt-rock sound. "Thanks, A Million" holds seven tracks, all telling different stories from the past 15 years of Tahlia’s life, “an expression of a naive child adapting into the reality of what we call adulthood.”

When it comes to my favorite songs, I loved the melancholic and nostalgic sound of “Comfort You”. The song arrangement was exceptional, and I find myself screaming the hook on my late-night drives. “Nextdoor” feels like it should be in a 90s indie-movie. It is laced with lush melodies, engaging percussion, captivating guitar riffs, and I believe it showcases Tahlia’s best vocal performance. Sonically, this record feels otherworldly. It is free therapy for me. Overall, this whole project is everything I needed and more. I’m rarely ever moved by new music, but “Thanks a Million” has truly moved me. Tahls has me wanting more music already. What they have done with this album is what being an artist and creator is about. It’s about giving people a “feeling”. So, stream their album below.
