SoundThing is a band that NEEDS to be in your rotation. Hailing from Iceland, the versatile band is known for their genre-less sound. Blending elements of folk, bluegrass, folk-rock, grunge-rock, & rock, they have an innate ability to craft records that captivate their listeners. They are daring, raw, and they are made up of a group of talented & experienced musicians. SoundThing, consists of Hjörleif Björnsson (guitarist and songwriter), Ásta Sigríði Sveinsdóttir (singer/songwriter), Erla Stefánsdóttir (bass player & singer-songwriter), and Valtýr Sigurðsson (drummer and songwriter). Coming together in 2022, the band has continued to build a dedicated following with their progressive sound. Now, they enter our pages with their latest EP “Bleed”.
“Bleed” is a transformative project that takes listeners on a sonic journey. For me, it was the perfect introduction to the band. From the sonics to the songwriting, SoundThing shines from start to finish. The storytelling and overall soundscape were exceptional, and I loved the sonic arrangement on each record. Before giving us the whole project, the band delivered their singles “Upside Down” & “Have You Seen The Place”. “Upside Down” is a folk-rock record that is laced with lush melodies, captivating instrumentation, and an ear-worm hook. “Have You Seen The Place” is a beautiful song with a great vocal performance and dynamic feel. My personal favorite was the title track “Bleed”. The record is carried by warm sonics, emotive lyrics, and guitar riffs that will touch your soul. “Bleed” had me hypnotized right when I pressed play. Overall, this project was one of my favorite listens of the year. SoundThing have my attention so listen to their project below!
