Although 2020 served as a year of loss, reflection, and change, it also led to a lot of great music. After finding a way to create in an unprecedented way during the pandemic, NYC duo, Dog Trainer [aka Nick Broman and Lucas del Calvo], have finally released their project Scrolling to feel better…part one.
The 11-song album is my first taste at hearing the duo, and I was completely surprised by how cohesive and sonically pleasing the album was. With their ability to craft songs that use acoustic guitars, EDM synths, and vulnerable lyrics that mesh with their massive beat drops, they gave us some of the most refined work I have heard all year.
After having time to sit with the album, my favorite tracks have to be ‘Dumb Paranoia’ and ‘Serious’. ‘Dumb Paranoia’ really laments in the loneliness and hardships caused by the pandemic, and the slow-paced beat only shines a brighter light on these raw emotions. ‘Serious’ has to be the gem of the album due to its introspective look into the long-term relationship of the duo. Overall, the album is a mixture of sounds and it has some of the most innovative sounds I have heard all year. With that being said. stream this below.
Favorite Song: Dumb Paranoia
Lyrics That Stick:
”Does my family think I’m lazy, that I’m wasting my whole twenties?
Did I spend way too much money on that weekend down in Florida?”
