Raw, daring, & captivating are all words that describe emerging rock-trio Raised On Candy. With roots that trace back to the San Francisco Bay-Area, the New York Tri-State band consisting of Joe Penna (vocals/guitar), Scotty Imp (drums/percussion), and Kevin Harris (bass/vocals) has taken the industry by storm. Personally, I love their ability to blend elements of indie-rock, post-punk, & shoegaze into one unique sound. Although I’m new to their brand of music, they debut on our pages with their unfiltered self-titled debut album, “Raised On Candy”.
“Raised On Candy” is a 12-track masterpiece that I consider to be the band’s magnum opus. The sonics are exceptional, and the vocals are the cherry on top. As a debut album, I was surprised at the chemistry and overall maturity of the lyrics. Raised On Candy can’t be put into a box, and they have this way of bringing listeners into their world with songs that evoke raw emotions.
When it comes to must-listen songs on the album, I was a huge fan of “Reunion” & “Lonely Bill”. “Lonely Bill” is the example of a perfect hard-rock song. The record has a nice tempo, and it’s laced with guitar riffs that will have you coming back for more. When I talk about generational hits, this song falls in that category. “Reunion” draws influence from 90s rock with a controlled chaos that makes it so enjoyable. For me, I have yet to hear music like this. With that being said, stream the album below>
