When it comes to music discovery, I always find myself searching for bands that are willing to bring listeners into their world. I yearn for bands that are looking to push the boundaries lyrically & sonically. Because of that, I find myself searching for disruptors that refuse to align with the genre norms. Although it’s often hard finding these bands, it feels like I hit the lottery when I do. This week, I came across Vancouver alternative rock band OurGlassZoo.

OurGlassZoo is a 4-piece band that has taken the music industry by storm. After garnering international attention with their songs “Somehow Somewhere” & “Listen”, they have continued to flourish with dynamic songs carried by relatable songwriting. They are raw, daring, and their tracks evoke real emotions out of their listeners. After finding recent success at the LA Music Awards & Berlin Short Film Festiva, they enter our pages with their latest album, “Horizons”.

“Horizons” is the bands third studio album, and I consider it to be their magnum opus. The album is full of dynamic songs that are carried by rich sounds, exceptional vocals, and engaging instrumentation. The album was recorded at Monarch Studios in 2023, and it connects their previous albums “Aftermath” (2022) and “Hindsight” (2020). The story is about perseverance and the ability to fight through adversity when the world has come to a halt. It is a story of hope and freedom. Josias explains:

“While ‘Horizons’ is more hopeful, it remains critical of humanity’s current path, as reflected in tracks like ‘Burn,’ ‘Innocence,’ and ‘Shut Up.’ However, it also highlights the preciousness of life and the importance of enjoying it, emphasizing healing and finding purpose to guide us in rediscovering our paths.”

Personally, my favorite songs were “Shut Up” & “Burn”. I felt myself connecting to those songs the most, and I would recommend new listeners to check those out. All in all, this album is fierce and full of emotion. So, if you are looking for new music, look no further. “Horizons” is the album for you. Stream it below and rock out!
