In today’s music industry, it is very rare that I come across an artist that stands the test of time. Although I can blame it oversaturation, I feel as if artists aren’t connecting to the listeners like they used to. Growing up, hearing a new song from your favorite artist was euphoric and it served as a timestamp to one of the best moments of your life. When it came to the music, the songs and albums were pure and there were no shortcuts taken. From the sonics to the vocals, music was alive and well. Though I sometimes get lost in the blandness and plastic sound of today’s industry, there are a few artists that are still releasing groundbreaking music. I recently came across an exceptional artist that goes by the name Miist.
Miist is an exceptional artist that reminds us to follow your dreams. Although some may call her a late bloomer to the music industry, she has the “IT” factor. She is daring, captivating, and mesmerizing. In the last 22 months, she has finished 65 songs & co-written with Billboard Music’s Top 10 All Time music producer Narada Michael Warren (Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Maria Carey). To add to her illustrious resume, she has won multiple international music awards, & she is the first ever Chinese-native to have a Billboard Top-30 hit. Miist is everything you want in an artist. Now, she enters our pages with her debut album, “The Songs from the Living Room”.
“The Songs from the Living Room” is an 11-track masterpiece that can be considered her magnum opus. Over the course of the album, she discussed her personal journey in the music industry while diving into her personal live. The album is vibrant, dynamic, and it’s full of optimism. Although there are some complex moments, I found most of the album to be catchy and intoxicating. I didn’t want to stop listening. For me, I love how she goes against music industry and genre norms. With production from Narada Michael Warren, you can expect this to be some of the best production you have heard in years. The production is nostalgic and aligns with the feel of 80s & 90s music. As a 90s kid, it brought back all the feels!
My favorite songs from the album were “Love Them Away” & “Move Your Body Slowly”. “Love Them Away” is an emotional record laced with an engaging piano arrangement, and you can feel the pain and raw emotion in her vocal delivery. This was the standout on the album. I felt like I truly connected with, and she evoked raw emotions out of me. “Move Your Body Slowly” is a fun record that’s laced with lush melodies, colorful tones, and the vocal performance is exceptional. Overall, this album is a must-listen. Miist is a star, and this album further proves that. Stream the album below and hear the industry’s next star!
