When it comes to music discovery, I’m always searching for artists or bands that create songs that people can connect with. As a writer, I have been in the industry for a long time, and there isn’t a better rush then listening to an artist or collective that gives you goosebumps. The feeling of being heard and hearing your thoughts from someone else can’t be explained. It’s a high that I always set out to find. However, with the oversaturation of the music industry, it gets harder and harder to find these genuine acts that are pushing music in a progressive direction. Everyone cares more about image and virality. Although this stands to be true, there is a new music collective that I think has the “IT” factor. Their name is B0r0s.

B0r0s is a collective of artists ranging from rappers, producers, photographers, & designers hailing from the boroughs of New York City. The collective was created by the innovative genius Javi G, and it also is comprised of Eli Rozas, Jaju, & SRLO. Together, they are one of the most polarizing music collectives out. Although I’m new to them, they have been building a dedicated fanbase with their infectious alternative hip-hop sound. Now, they enter our pages with their latest EP “MEET THE CARNALES”.

“MEET THE CARNALES” is an explorative 6-track EP made up of ear-worm hooks, engaging sonics, and a sound that is cohesive over the project’s 7-minute runtime. To me, the project is a steppingstone for the collective to display how they have matured and grown as artists. They take their traditional sound and take it to new heights by experimenting with different sonic elements that allow them to convey expansive ideas. Drawing inspiration from the nostalgic feel of the early 2000s, they experiment with guitars and bass with more confidence. The energy and feel of the project can’t be overlooked.

When it comes to my favorite songs, I’m a huge fan of “Loose Screws” & “Rigamarole”. “Loose Screws” is a catchy song that discusses the woes of incomplete love. This is relatable in the fact that we have all been in this situation whether we like it or not. The feeling of not fulfilling the love you once thought you had with someone is like a dagger in the heart. The final track, “Rigamarole”, is a record that discusses their aspirations, future, self-fulfillment, and stardom. Overall, this is one of the most complete projects I have heard this year, and you need to have it in your rotation.
