Have you ever listened to an artist that caught your attention on the first listen? If so, what made them standout? Was it their cadence? Overall delivery? Songwriting? Instrumentation? This week, I came across an artist that made me fall in love with music all over again. That artist is Kerrin Connolly.
Hailing from the Greater Boston area, Kerrin is an emerging indie-rock artist that has captivated audiences with their dynamic sound. Their aura is unmatched, and they have this innate ability to craft songs that evoke raw emotions out of their listeners. It is rare for me to find an artist with so much potential, but Kerrin has that “IT” factor. To add their resume, Kerrin is a self-taught musician with a DIY sound. Garnering attention from NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest, they have created a loyal fanbase. Now, they enter our pages with their mesmerizing album, “Transitions”.
“Transitions” is an exceptional 7-track album, and I consider it to be their magnum opus. It is a glimmering light of hope in an industry where most albums seem to lack substance. The songs are raw, dynamic, and they have a flair that will leave you begging for more. From the engaging guitar riffs to the melancholic harmonies, this album is both personable & angsty. There is also a touch of late 90s alt-rock within the album, and I believe that’s why I love it so much.
From a technical perspective, Kerrin’s guitar work was a chef’s kiss. They seem to have grown as both a singer and musician from their earlier work. This is album is a testament to her maturity and will to expand on an already solid foundation. They are more confident, and that can be felt within their vocal delivery. My favorite songs were “Talk Therapy” & “American Psomething”. Those tracks left a lasting impression on me. Overall, this is a must-listen album, and Kerrin has made a fan out of me. With that being said, stream the album below and rock out!
