Music has always been a driving force in my life. Since a young age, I have felt this unexplainable connection to the thoughts and expression that you can feel though someone’s voice or the strum or hit of an instrument. I like to consider music as sonic poetry. As I’ve gotten older and become a writer, I have continued to search for the kind of songs and artists that bring that genuine feel of appreciation to music. I search for those that do it because of the love of the craft. This week, I happened to come across an emerging singer-songwriter that has all the tools to be a household name. That artist is Kailey Tenn.

Hailing from Long Island, the 23-year-old singer songwriter has been captivating audiences left & right with her unique sound. To say she fits into one genre would be truly unfair. Kailey takes elements from a wide range of influences and crafts a sound that is full of soul and dynamic instrumentation. Her ceiling is high, and her mature songwriting is well-beyond her years. After impressing me with her single “Just Another Day”, she debuts on our pages with her latest EP “Forever Is Finite”.

“Forever Is Finite” is a cohesive body of work that shows Kailey at her very best. Drawing musical influence from the likes of Chelsea Cutler, Jon Bellion, & Paramore, she culminates a sound that is built for any demographic. Her EP is made for those that LOVE music. It’s tender, relatable, and her vocals throughout the project are exceptional. Sonically, she is unmatched. She uses hard-hitting drums, orchestral instruments, and her records are laced with lush melodies that will have you hooked once you press play.

When discussing the album, Kailey had this to say: “I surprised my teenage self when that cynical contradiction crossed my mind in 2019. The notion of 'forever' is typically defined as infinite and endless. However, when life starts throwing you heartbreak and hardships, the glass that was once half full suddenly looks half empty. This EP narrates a healing journey in which each song is a dedication to different universal themes and emotions: sadness, anger, reflection, happiness, and letting go. It's a realization that sometimes endings can be opportunities for growth and new beginnings.”

In an industry that lacks substance, Kailey continues to shine the brightest. She is pushing the boundaries sonically, and she is making music that feels real. Her music isn’t made with virality as the end goal. Tenn wants you to connect with who she is, and I find that amazing. So, if you want a new artist to fall in love with, stream this project below!
