If you are looking for your new favorite artist, look no further. W.C. Beck is exactly what you are looking for. The itinerant singer/songwriter from Kansas who has called Brooklyn, NY home after long stints in Portland, OR and Paris, France, had captivated audiences with his ability to crafts songs that range from indie-folk to classic country. With ear-worm hooks and catchy melodies, he tells stories of the long forgotten American Heartland. His music is bold, raw, and I love his ability to express his feelings within his exceptional songwriting.
For those still new to W.C. Beck, his name has been catching ears in the industry. The multi-instrumentalist has played in several bands and has been session musician. To add to his resume, he has toured supporting major acts such as The Dandy Warhols, Familia Segundo, The Decemberists, Michael Hurley, Black Prairie, Jackstraw, Blitzen Trapper, The Moondoggies, and many more. This all took place while he was in the Portland scene. In recent years, the now Brooklyn-based artist has focused more on his solo career. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest album, “Facecomber".
“Facecomber” is a dynamic 10-track album full of lush melodies and rich sounds. Sonically, there’s a warmth to each record that will remind you of home. Originally, the album was recorded for a 2020 release but was halted due to the pandemic. After spending some time away from the project, he re-visited the records and finalized the project in 2021. From the lyrics to the instrumentation, this album is flawless. Vocally, Beck’s vocals were a chef’s kiss. His ability to manipulate his voice to capture the feel and emotion of each lyric is what makes him so special. Personally, I found this to be an introspective album that was cathartic overall. The album felt like he was self-reflecting and having conversations with himself.
Beck proves he has the chops to be a top tier artist with this album. “Facecomber” is his magnum opus, and it shows his maturity as a singer-songwriter over time. My favorite songs from the album were “Turn to Fall” & “10:19 Train”. Overall, this was an excellent album, and it deserves a listen. So, stream it below and vibe out!
