DuckWRTH - SuperGood EP Review

By: Phil Deutsch, IG: @pbdeutsch

DuckWRTH is back with what makes us love him so much. Since 2015, the LA-based artist has released instant-classic albums filled with his trademark cerebral flow. Not to be outdone by the likes of himself, DuckWRTH is here to top it all again with SuperGood. The album mixes traditional hip-hop with soul and funk in fresh, enthusiastic ways, with as much vibe as there is rage.

The album’s opener, “New Love Song,” only begins to show the depth of field DuckWRTH masters so simply on this album. That track, along with the Jean Deaux-assisted “Money Dance” feature spectacular production from Essancy, Julian Nixon, Xtina Prince, and DuckWRTH himself that truly creates a discrete space in which this album lives in our heads.

DuckWRTH thrives on SuperGood. Whether it’s the featured tracks (with the likes of KIAN, EARTHGANG, and more) or his solo pieces, DuckWRTH makes the song serve his vision and tie back into the feel-good theme of the album. Don’t let this gem slip under your radar.

Lyrics That Stick:

“Laid hands on the blind and word to Stevie

They opened up their eyes and said they can see me

Miracles happen every day, that's a repeat

Honey-infused vocabulary”
