Music is an artform that can bring people together from all walks of life. Whether you are producing it or listening to it, there’s this connection we all experience when we discover music that speaks the truths of our daily life. As a journalist, I’m always searching for music that brings me that internal high of truly being seen and heard. Although it doesn’t always happen, when I find that song or album that truly speaks to me, I get hooked. Now, out of all the new music I have discovered, Noel Aponte’s latest EP “Bittersweet” may be the best thing I have heard this month.

For those who are new to his sound, Noel Aponte is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose musical talent will leave you inspired to explore the depths of your own emotions and creativity. With roots tracing back to Puerto Rico, the rising singer hails from my home state of North Carolina. Music has always had a place in his heart since a kid, so it is great to see him continue to grow over time. If you are just hearing him for the first time, you will see that he draws inspiration from artists like Cuco, Choker, and Frank Ocean. Although there are resemblances to the soundscapes of those artists, Aponte adds his own innovative twist which helps define his sound. His ability to craft captivating singles is what makes him so polarizing.

After impressing us with his singles “Chill With My Friends” & “Stay right here”, Aponte debuts on our pages with his latest EP “Bittersweet”. “Bittersweet” is a 5-song masterpiece that comes from the beautiful ideas that reside in Aponte’s head. Sonically, the soundscape is tapped into the comforting vibes that you would expect from indie-alt music. Vocally, Aponte is exceptional. When it comes to my favorite songs, I have to say “Fleeting Love” & “Still Love You” were the most memorable. With a lo-fi/bedroom pop sound, “Still Love You” pulls you in with it’s warm sonics and lush melodies. The lyrics are also some of my favorite from the project. When I listen to this single, it takes me back to College Summers where we would stay at my friend’s lake house and smoke in the early hours of the day. Now, “Fleeting Love” is a song that can’t be slept on. It is a song that could be the soundtrack to your Summer. The record feels like a Mac Demarco record with a new age edge. The song is laced with smooth guitar riffs, captivating drums, and a hook that’ll make you want to ride down PCH with your top down. Overall, the EP shows the diverse range of genres and moods the artist can portray. As well as production skill. If you are looking for new music, stream his EP below!
