Captivating, daring, and mesmerizing are all words that describe emerging Swedish-American duo, Flora Cash. The band was formed by Kosovo-born Shpresa Lleshaj and American musician Cole Randall after they met on SoundCloud in 2012. Known for their alternative indie-pop sound, they have continued to impress audiences with a sound that evokes raw emotions. Drawing influence from their diverse backgrounds, their genre-bending music is carried by melancholic melodies and dynamic production. Garnering mainstream attention, the duo has continued to put out captivating hits over the years. Now, they enter our pages with their 4th studio album, “behind every beautiful thing”.

“behind every beautiful thing” is a sonic masterpiece, and it was entirely written and produced by the band. Personally, I consider this to be their magnum opus. The album is that good. Across the 11-tracks, they discuss love, change, finding the beauty in imperfection, and the tension between holding on & letting go. Sonically, the album ranges from dark orchestral tones to light colorful production. This is the kind of release that will have you coming back for more.

My favorite songs were “just wanna feel you”, “HOLY WATER”, & “Morning Comes”. “just wanna feel you” has minimalist lofi-elements & dreamy vocals. I loved the percussion, and I liked their decision to have this as a piano-driven song. It added more emotion, and it created that heartfelt sincerity that we all want out of music. “HOLY WATER” is laced with deep strings, piano, and the record has a sad feel to it. It is a song about reflection and contemplation. This song left the biggest impact on me. “Morning Comes” is the anthem. It is carried by bright piano tones, twangy guitars, captivating vocals, and it is about valuing each day. This song stood out because I recently lost my girlfriend to cancer, and that situation has made me realize that tomorrow isn’t promised. We have to live each day to the fullest.

Overall, this is one of the strongest albums I have heard this year. With features from Djordje Milanovic on violins and viola and Yoed Nir on cello, the duo successfully crafted a soundscape that is both innovative & otherworldly. Music should be felt, and I truly felt something from this project. With that being said, stream the album below and vibe out!
