In an industry where thousands of artists emerge every month, it gets harder & harder to find TRUE undeniable talent. So, I ask the question, who is Andrew Wells? At the beginning of the week, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you. However, after checking out his discography, I consider him to be one of my artists to watch.

Andrew Wells is a rising Chinese American rapper/producer with a knack for dropping infectious hits. He’s engaging, and he has this allure that can’t be overlooked. With a skillset that includes rapping and producing, he can’t be put into a box. Now, he debuts on our pages with his reflective new album, “HORIZONS”.

“HORIZONS” follows the success of his debut mixtape “Thank God I’m Here”, and it showcases his growth as an artist. On the 13-track album, we get to see the transformation Wells has experienced over the past four years. The record covers a wide range of topics from self-growth, childhood trauma, love, loyalty and the allure of success amongst other relatable subject matter. It’s daring, and it is one of the most exciting projects I have heard this year. When it comes to my favorite songs, I have to highlight “LUCKY”, “FELICIA”, & “KNOCKED OUT”.

“LUCKY” is a soulful record that reflects on Andrew’s journey as an artist. He discusses the ups and downs when it comes to chasing dreams, and he finds his peace in whatever comes with it. The record is engaging even though it doesn’t have percussion. Although there aren’t drums, it allows his vocals to shine which makes his lyrics hit even more.

“FELICIA” is a love song that is laced with lush melodies, emotive lyrics, and beautiful song arrangement. This has to be my personal favorite off of the album. Wells uses this song to reminisce about a lost lover. He begs the question, what could have been? The record is extremely relatable, and I consider it to be one of the most universal tracks off of the project.

“KNOCKED OUT” is sonically pleasing. It is laced with lush texture and punchy drum groove that will pull you in once you press play. Lyrically, the storytelling is top tier.

Overall, this has become one of my favorite albums of the month. The records are cohesive and Andrew showcases his raw ability. If you didn’t know who Andrew Well was before, you will want to know him NOW!
