Mesmerizing, captivating, and relatable are all words that describe rising singer/songwriter Andrew. With roots that trace back to Copenhagen, Denmark, Andrew has continued to develop a cult-like following with his infectious songs that pull at listener’s heartstrings. From songwriting at the age of 13 to now producing and crafting his own songs, Andrew has grown into a burgeoning star. His ceiling is high, and he has this ability to connect with his songwriting prowess. After impressing me with his singles “u&I” & “Don’t Cry”, I knew he had that “IT” factor. Now, he enters our pages with his exceptional project “The Rainbow Album”.
"The Rainbow Album" is a seven-song story album written, composed, produced, mixed and mastered by Andrew. Cohesive at its core, “The Rainbow Album” is more than a body of work. It is a sonic journey that is carried by warm sonics, reflective lyrics, and it sticks to the theme of representing the seven colors of the rainbow. The project is daring, emotional, and it proves that conceptual work in music is needed more than ever. Using the seven colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet), Andrew uses his production as a canvas to paint the emotion that comes with each color on the album’s duration. The symbolism and otherworldly sonics help carry this project to the finish line in beautiful fashion.
Each record builds on the next and they all convey a different feeling. “u&I” is an energetic record that is laced with lush melodies and a “heady” hook. The record is reflective in that it’s about letting go. With its catchy hook and dynamic sonics. It is one of the more memorable tracks. “u&I” is the color RED. “Heart Beat” is the color ORANGE. The song is punchy, direct, and it covers the themes of self-empowerment & optimism. Just like the color orange, the record is bright & warm. Taking a faster pace sonically, “Fall In Love” is a captivating single that symbolizes joy. “Fall In Love” is YELLOW. "Don't Cry" is a slowly growing pop song that contains darker emotions, and the listener will feel it growing lyrically and instrumentally as they progress the song. This song symbolizes some deeper psychological struggles such as anxiety and depression. “Don’t Cry” is GREEN. "softly in the night" is a power ballad with feelings of anger dwelling beneath at first, but these emotions are eventually unleashed completely as the song reaches the second chorus and the instrumentation grows significantly. This song symbolizes sadness and coldness. “softly in the night” is BLUE. "wait" is a pop ballad. Mixed emotions such as hopelessness, loss, sadness and nostalgia are shining through in this song which makes the overall tone seem darker, but with the beautiful instrumentation of the piano, choir and other effects backing the lyrics, it creates a unique experience for the listener as they progress through the song. This song symbolizes deep thoughts and sincerity. “wait” is INDIGO. "Rainbow" is an up-tempo pop song with a magical atmosphere shining through, with feelings of being empowered and an urge to be filled with pride. It also ends the album in a meaningful way by lyrically connecting the 7 colors of the rainbow, and the listener is encouraged to be left with a strong feeling of acceptance. This song symbolizes magic, pride and power. “Rainbow” is violet.
Overall, Andrew has impressed me with his project. He is daring and he has proven that he has the “IT” factor. This is an album that has no skips. If I could award it now, I would say that it’s album of the year. The rainbow concept is pure genius. Andrew is the next big thing so stream his album now.
