Over the last few years, we have seen an emergence of punk-rock in the music industry. Whether it’s artists using small elements or fusing it with their signature sound, punk rock has made it’s return into the mainstream. Although I am a huge critic when it comes down to artists drawing inspiration from it, I am quick to sign-off on songs that truly get it right. This week we were blessed to listen to emerging singer-songwriter, Laraw, deliver one of our favorite releases of the year “Scissors”. The single is raw, edgy, and it cuts deep figuratively and lyrically.
Over the song’s runtime, Laraw narrates the angsty effects of a heartbreak, complemented by her stunning vocals. “Scissors is about the grief of having a loved one completely destroy you,” said Laraw. “Knowing they will and just letting it happen.” With a catchy melody and unforgettable chorus, the emotionally driven indie-pop track is sure to be this summer’s quintessential heartbreak anthem.
The irresistible bop from the Montreal singer comes alongside a music video, directed by Gerado Alcaine and co-directed by Laraw, that perfectly captures the melancholy and angst of the release.
