Shortcake Shines On Her Groundbreaking New Single “Right Side Up”

Over the last couple of years, the process of discovering groundbreaking music artists has gotten harder and harder. With content creation limiting attention spans and the oversaturation of artists, finding a genuine sound is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. That’s not to say there aren’t more talented artists than ever before, but it feels as if it is harder to connect from a listener and writer standpoint due to the vast number of options available. However, I recently came across an artist that I think is a hidden gem. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, rising singer-songwriter/producer, Shortcake, has found a way to make me fall in love with music discovery again.

With her latest offering “Right Side Up”, the emerging singer pens an emotional song that explores how society has lost touch with reality through reliance on technology. This is a subject matter I believe that we can all relate to. With her soft ethereal vocals and exceptional songwriting, she floats over electronic-inspired sonics that bring her lyrics and vocals to life. Her unique lyricism is displayed through euphonious melodies that aim to convey a hidden reality. Overall, the lyrics express a belief that someday, society will exist in an ambiguous “upside down” state, suggesting that we have lost sight of what it means to be truly right side up. I can’t put into words how powerful and moving this record is. Although she is only 22-years old, she displays a maturity and understanding of the world that is far beyond her years. If you are looking for a new single to add to your playlists, make sure to check this record out!
