When it comes to making innovative music that fuses electronic and hyper-pop together, andy polk is second to none. His keen ear on the production side allows him to blend elements across pop, punk, and electronic into one captivating sound. With the help of Australian-based hyper-pop artist, cookii, polk delivers his exciting new single ‘pins&needles’.
From the first listen, you can tell the chemistry between polk and cookii is very strong. They both assert themselves well, and their vocal performances will have you belting the lyrics from start to finish. Sonically, ‘pins&needles’ is an electro-pop jam with drum/bass tempo and pace. The co-produced instrumental is energetic and it contrasts well with the introspective lyrics that feature andy and cookii reflecting on mental health, their vices, and the overwhelming feeling of living life. On the surface, the song feels like a pop anthem due to the modern punk feel of polk’s vocals and the flair from cookii’s. However, the record is a confessional single about the sharp and subtle pains that we feel going through the nuances of life. Although the soundscape of the record may be unconventional to mainstream music, both artists are dipping their feet into a genre that will potentially take over in the next couple of years. Overall, the record is my new guilty pleasure, and we believe that you should listen to it ASAP!
Lyrics That Stick
“Pins and needles pierce my body,
Fuck around and try to stop me
Seratonin, cut me open,
Keep me going, keep me going”
