Outside of the reality television series, I never knew too much about the Jersey Shore. I mean can you blame me? Growing up in the bible belt of the south, it always felt like New York was so far away, and I have always felt distant from their music scene. However, I’m starting to reconsider my thoughts on the Jersey Shore due to the super talented group that goes by Recess Radio. With their new song titled ‘Pencilvanya’, the multi-talented group has caught my attention with their AER-Esque melodies and warm production.

They are a much-needed breath of fresh air in this ever-so-crowded industry. I think what makes them special is their personable lyricism, and their ability to craft tender melodies that feel so genuine. When I listen to them, they take me to a carefree place where it seems like life is okay.

‘Pencilvanya’ is a confessional song about losing yourself in an unknown place after dealing with the insecurities of a relationship. The Jersey Shore natives show their ability over the ambient production by fusing their compelling raps with infectious singing that will have you in a trance. Although this is my first time listening to the group, I find it rather appealing that their music feels like where they are from. When it comes to music nowadays it feels like everyone is influenced by so many different genres, so it is hard to manifest music that feels like a certain place. However, for Recess Radio, it feels like the group is honest with themselves, and they have this genuine vibe that makes you want to experience where they are from. With that being said, we believe you should give this track a listen!!

Lyrics That Stick:

“I been getting lost in my head

And I can’t get out

She been running laps in my bed

Just trynna figure out”
