Since the 90s, Pokémon has been a driving force within pop culture. From the binge-worthy television and movie series to the trading cards, Pokémon has found a way to live within all of us at some point. With Pokémon Day nearing its 25th virtual concert anniversary, it has called on many of our favorite acts to perform their ear-catching music. In the midst of all the hype, high profile rockstar, Post Malone, delivers a tweaked cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit ‘Only Wanna Be With You’.
I remember hearing this infectious song as a kid on car rides to school. The Darius Rucker vocals always found a way to calm me, and it gave me that early sense of what music should sound like. Although I have only known it to be their song, Post Malone delivers a powerful vocal performance that makes me feel those emotions once again. His vibrato will catch you from the beginning, and his silky vocals will make you feel his lyrics in a way that you would think it was meant to be his song. With this song being the first we have heard from the global star in some time, I can only say that Post Malone’s star power will continue to grow. His ability to create infectious solo records and also deliver amazing covers show his versatility as an artist.
Lyrics That Stick
“You and me, we come from different worlds
You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls
Sometimes you're crazy and you wonder why”
