Especially as an artist, emotions can hit you in the form of a roller coaster sometimes. For artist, Shawn Matthews, music has become a home for him to speak freely about the thoughts in his mind. On his new pop-punk single, “MIC CHECK!”, Shawn Matthews questions if it’s time he leaves his comfort zone, and finally confronts the thoughts he’s been hiding.

In a time where music is dropped so frequently, and we’re exposed to apps with timelines full of artists trying to be heard, all working tirelessly to create that “one hit song” that changes their lives, it’s refreshing to hear someone include real substance in their music. Although “MIC CHECK!” possesses that mainstream sound, Shawn Matthews didn’t skip any steps with his songwriting, and that’s the reason I think “MIC CHECK!” is going to be a song a lot of people sing along soon.
