Valley - Like 1999

After a video on their TikTok saying they’d release a song if it hit 1 million views, the goal was hit and we were blessed with this absolute masterpiece from one of my current favorite bands, Valley. Similar to a lot of songs from this talented bunch, ‘Like 1999’ is a beautifully-crafted story that’s jam-packed with infectious melodies and an overall cinematic feel.
Ever since 2018 when I was uncontrollably bumping ‘This Room Is White’ in my white-walled bedroom, I’ve noticed how effortlessly Valley has always been able to translate emotion so clearly through their songwriting and detailed lyrics. It’s the type of music you listen to and get instantly transported somewhere else, whether that be to a moment in the past or to an idealistic version of your own life. It’s a sense of freedom and carelessness that’s maintained in everything I hear from them!
‘Like 1999’ is the type of song that demands to be belted along to with the windows down and your best friends in the car with you! Give it a listen if you haven’t yet.
Lyrics That Stick:
“We were parked in a Pontiac
Making out no internet
10 things I hate about you
Honestly nothing”
