It isn’t often that I find an artist that captivates me on the first listen. Due to the saturation of the music industry, you could say that I have become very picky in what I choose to listen to, and the criteria of really captivating me as a listener has heightened. I look for artists that are unique, refreshing, and one’s who dare to take risks sonically and vocally. This week, I was blessed to come across my new guilty pleasure and his name is dilip. The rising singer-songwriter, has been turning many heads with his ability to craft a sound that blends indie, pop, and r&B elements to push his stories of love and heartbreak. With years of experience, the Brooklyn-singer debuts on our pages with his latest single “Lemon Tart”, and I can’t get it out of my head.
On his latest single, dilip discusses the complexities of love over engaging guitar riffs and colorful pop production. The song is smooth and it is laced with lush melodies, captivating drums, and a hook that will be stuck in your head well after the song is off. Dilip says when writing this song, his feelings were exactly like the dessert his ex used to make: “Sweet, airy, comforting memories of our time together co-exist with the sour taste of how it all ended.”
With his reflective lyrics and his ability to evoke emotions, he is truly creating something that feels so real to me. He executed everywhere through the single and there were so many engaging elements that make you never want the song to stop. His transitions are smooth, his lyrics are honest, and the breakdowns are captivating. There isn’t one dull moment and that’s what makes me a huge fan.
