Cate Tomlinson has been one of the most polarizing artists that I have discovered this year. There’s a realness to her sound that is easy to relate to. She’s honest, intentional, and daring to the core. After gaining traction with her single “Damage Control” earlier this year, she drops her reflective EP Blueberry Season. The EP is some of her most honest work to date and she has us hooked to her single “so cool so mean”.
“so cool so mean” is a sultry pop-rock track that captures the early stages of a complicated crush. With its upbeat tempo, the record eloquently paints the picture of the person we all dream of. Her vocals are exceptional and although the subject matter is deep, “so cool so mean” is a danceable record. Cate explores a new part of her identity, and I believe the record is about self-liberation & freedom. This is what Cate had to say about the record:
“I wrote this about realizing I like girls.”
I have always been a fan of artists that use art to express themselves, and Cate Tomlinson excels at this. So, stream her new EP and make sure to add “so cool so mean” to your playlists!
