Right off the bat, hearing that contagious guitar loop and Jay Isaiah’s smooth-as-butter voice should be enough to let you know this one is serious. ‘Tongue Tied’ simply feels like something you’d want blasting as you drive with the windows down on a summer day.
Jay Isaiah has such a drawing quality to his voice, the way he effortlessly hits notes high and low, complimented with harmonious layers and melodies. It simply feels good to listen to. yung sum - california

yung sum successfully accomplishes two things with every song I hear from him. The first being that he catches me off guard with constant style switches and versatility displays. The second being that it’s always something I end up keeping on repeat.
‘California’ is an all-out melting pot of genres and styles. With an acoustic base and texturized percussion throughout, taken over then by softer electronic drops, dreamy piano, and… dog barks? Yeah, it catches you off guard in the best way.
Give this one a listen and let yung sum’s nostalgic, intimate voice carry you away to somewhere else.

‘split lip’ combines the likes of numerous genres, offering a fresh perspective of indie rock, electronic pop, and a whole lot of good energy. The range of cadences jasper dean hit was super impressive, too. His versatility and attention to detail just shines so bright throughout! Teaming up with Lifli on this hyper pop, alternative electronic anthem, Zalo doesn’t hold back a bit in bringing a complete wave of energy and good vibes throughout this one!
I love all the little textures and added sounds throughout production-wise. It felt like a new surprise around every corner, adding to the song so wonderfully. Zalo and Lifli then accelerated the vibe to the max with extremely smooth vocals and melodies. Check it out!

Bela Pierce - Pink Hair

Being a new fan of Bela Pierce, two things are clear; the first being she’s going to be very big very soon. The second? Her ‘Pink Hair’ rocks. And so does this song.
I’m a sucker for some uber-detailed, personally genuine songwriting, and that’s exactly what Bela does with this one to get her point across. Singing about feeling lost, broken, etc. is something just about everyone can relate to, and the way she draws in her way of coping and reflecting just makes it all the more intriguing. It also doesn’t hurt that her voice is so effortlessly powerful! Those melodies are sure to be stuck in your head all week.
Turn this one on a let yourself feel something! I think we could all use it. Hats off to Bela Pierce - we can’t wait for more!

Forrest Nolan has been one of my favorite artists this year after hearing ‘Second Base’ a few months back. He’s now back with another bop to serve as the perfect ‘Summer Vibe!’
For starters, this song is so insanely infectious I haven’t turned it off all week. It just carries such a carefree, nostalgic feel to it! Along with that sunshine mood brought about, the visual to go along brings that feeling to life all the more! Images of dancing in a field and driving with the windows down is exactly where I’d imagine someone like myself would hit play on a song like this. Hats off Forrest Nolan yet again on another classic!

Cal Scruby - Locked in a Box

Whenever I see a new Cal Scruby song dropped, I make sure to put away my phone, limit my distractions, and put on headphones to make sure I can catch all this dude’s insane bars. And usually, I have to end up running it back a few times because there are just too many to count!
‘Locked in a Box’ comes correct with this bouncy, almost laid-back type flow. It reminds of how I feel listening to a ‘0 To 100’ type of song. It’s not the same song at all, but that confident feeling I get from listening is there. Cal Scruby’s cadence and attention to detail in wordplay will always have me impressed. Check this one out ASAP!

Put on your 80’s fit, hop in the car and roll the windows down, because this new Lance Redeker is about to make you feel like you’re in an old coming-of-age film. Blending multiple decades worth of sounds through dreamy production and intimate songwriting, ‘Truman’ is shaping up to be an anthem for us all this summer!
I seriously love the delivery of this song! The way Redeker jumps the gun with a super vulnerable stanza of storytelling to start it off, I was instantly transported to another world as I listened to the story unfold. This track just feels like a wave of nostalgia and carefree emotions hitting you at once.
Lance Redeker is quite unlike anything I’ve heard before. His voice is just as infectious as it is unique! Check this one out if you haven’t.

The storytelling is A1 here. Painting this super detailed image of a conversation happening between to ex lovers, drawing in momentary experiences and feelings, I can see it all unfold so vividly! Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen ASAP if you haven’t yet.

The amount of sheer energy and infectious vibes I get every time I throw on some charlieonafriday is honestly unmatched. His uniquely arranged flows and sticky melodies never fail to leave me wanting more, and his latest, ‘After Hours,’ is no exception!
This one carries such a genuine emotion behind it, created first by the solemn guitar picking and followed shortly by charlie’s intimate and vulnerable vocal cadence. I love the way it slowly builds as the production enhances and his flows become more intense. It’s perfect song to sing along to in the car with the windows down at night! Spence - Too Quick

Never have 3.5 minutes gone by as ‘Quick’ as they did when I was listening to this new Spence track! Actually, those 3.5 minutes turned into an entire afternoon of having this song on repeat… yeah, it’s that catchy.
What really stands out about this song is the genuine emotion and personality in Spence’s songwriting. I feel like I know him better as an artist and person after hearing it! I can definitely relate to what’s being said, and it’s just the cherry on top the fact that it’s so catchy.
I also love the attention to detail in production and various vocal layers. The textures in the background and clever beat inflections to transition the verses and hooks were executed to perfection! I’m super excited to hear more from Spence in 2021.

The second I finished listening to this song the first time, I told myself I just needed to hear it ‘One More’ time. After that time, I said the same thing. Long story short, I’ve had this new southernwade on repeat all afternoon. From the moment you hit play, I have a feeling you’ll do the same, too!
‘One More’ is a nostalgic, cinematic masterpiece that displays both southerwade’s insanely-smooth voice and his incredibly-intimate songwriting. There’s so much spacial tension throughout this song created by the airy production and layered, reverb-ed vocals. It creates such a warm, inviting sound that’ll have you singing along in no time! Munn - i hate you for this

I’ve been pretty much hooked on Munn from the moment I heard his effortlessly-smooth voice and insanely relatable songwriting early last year. His latest, ‘i hate you for this,’ feels like all the love, hurt, happiness, and anger that comes with a relationship wrapped up into 2 minutes and 17 seconds.
I honestly felt like I was in a movie while listening to this. Maybe it’s Munn’s detailed, vulnerable style of writing that tells such a clear story throughout, or maybe it’s the dreamy, cinematic production and vocal layers that make me feel what’s being said all the more. Either way, I was fully captivated listening to this song, and I have a feeling it’ll be stuck in my head all week!
Munn is definitely an artist you’ll want to keep an eye out for in 2021. Check this one out if you haven’t yet!

Ruel - too many emotions

I, for one, am thankful that Ruel experiences ‘too many feelings’ at times, because it usually results in absolute bops on the back end! This song is jam-packed with all the beautiful layers and melodies one could hope for, and enough soulful emotion to fill up a stadium.
I love the low-frequency production of the piano and percussion throughout, creating such a lukewarm atmosphere and cool tones to compliment Ruel’s warm vocals on top. It’s gorgeous, harmonious, and full of emotion. Check it out if you haven’t yet!

Public Library Commute - Moonlight

Conrad Hsiang, known to you all as Public Library Commute, and known to me as my favorite neo-soul, lofi-pop, genre-bending extraordinaire artist, is continuing his streak of melting hearts with his latest release, ‘Moonlight.’
This one is special. The third-count guitar carries such a creamy tone right off the bat, with a wave of romantic percussion wasting no time entering shortly after. This creates such a warm vibe to begin, and once PLC’s intimately-layered vocals come in, it’s wraps. The plethora of dreamy high ends and soulful lows is created by his ability to blend so many harmonies and textures. Not to mention the strings leading into the guitar solo at the end! Unreal.
Talk about living rent-free in my head! This song will be there for awhile. It’s clear that PLC is a generational talent when it comes to production, songwriting, and vocal performance. I’m excited to see what else 2021 has to offer for him!

Emotion is a never a characteristic that seems to lack when it comes to Ryan Oaks’ music. This dude leaves everything on the table when he goes to record a new song, and that ability is fully apparent in his latest, ‘LET IT OUT.’
Ryan Oaks is one of the artists we’ve seen paving the way for the new wave of rock-n-roll music the past couple years. This song specifically showcases that grittiness we saw in early 2000’s rock, while maintaining a lyrically-focused songwriting style that incorporates modern hip-hop flow techniques. It really is cool to witness, and Ryan Oaks never fails to impress!
