The Dandy’s Bring The Energy On Their Electrifying EP, “Sex and Feuds”

Emerging from the “Down Under”, Brisbane/Meanjin-based punk/alt-rock darlings, The Dandy’s, have been growing a cult-like fanbase due to their innate ability to craft unapologetic hits. They are daring, raw, and relatable. Every time I listen to them, I get a hit of dopamine. Establishing themselves in 2021, the band has used the last 2 years to build their foundation and following. Although their discography is limited, they have produced nothing short of quality. Their sound is timeless, and they are one of the most polarizing acts out right now!

After captivating audiences with their intoxicating singles “Good Life”, “Gums”, & “Smile More”, the band returns with their debut EP “Sex and Feuds”. The EP is a sonic exploration of adolescence and the chaos that follows. Over the project’s duration, The Dandy’s approach each song with flair and precision. Fueled by their charisma and their personal experiences, the project serves as a testament to their growth and unapologetic approach. They don’t care about the status quo. They make what feels right. Laced with vibrant energy and sheer confidence, the EP discusses the growing pains of realizing that life isn’t fair. As we get older, we have to learn how to respond to different situations over time. As a cinema buff, I would relate this project to my favorite movie “Kids”.

The project kicks of with the easy flowing “Falling”. “Falling’ is carried by warm vocals, engaging percussion, and a hook that is otherworldly. For me, the record feels like a mid-summer dream. I picture myself on a beach allowing the breeze to engulf me as I lay in piece. “Broke Me Down” arguably has the best vocal performance. Laced with lush melodies, the vocals blend so well with the sonic arrangement & build up on this record. For me, I usually connect with production first, but the vocals on this record were exceptional. In addition, the songwriting was easy to connect with. “State of Mind” was a fiery single. The flair and overall soundscape on this one is enough to make you want to run through a wall. It has the nostalgic touch of alt-rock from the late 90s while also bringing an angsty feel. “Temporary Fix” is far from a filler song. It is another example of the bands versatility to build different sounds. My personal favorite “Gums” has to be the song of the year. For me, the song is about self-liberation and taking your freedom back. It’s about releasing pressure. Overall, this is one of the most fun projects I have heard this year. With that being said, stream the project below and vibe out.
