If you are looking for the next emerging star in Hip-Hop, look no further. Andrew Davis, commonly known as TAME, The Aspiring Me, is an American rapper, music producer, and interdisciplinary artist. With roots that trace back to Missouri City, The Aspiring Me has garnered attention with his innate ability to connect with listeners through his music. He is talented, and the music gene surely runs in the family. As the son of Hip-Hop legend Big Mello, Davis has seen the ins & outs of the game. After beginning his own career in 1998 as a producer, he has moved around the country blessing listeners and publications with his raw talent. In 2017, he finally committed to his solo career, and it has only been up from there! Now, the innovative artist who has taken Houston by storm debuts on our pages with his self-produced album "TAME 4: Love & Art”.
The 10-track album is a cohesive body of work that takes listeners on a sonic journey. The records are innovative, and they build on each other which allows the listener to dive into the life of one of the best lyricists in the game. The Aspiring Me is raw, genuine, and he shows his lyrical prowess in a way that he has never done before. For me, "TAME 4: Love & Art” is an anthem of resiliency and the relentless pursuit of artistic passions. This isn’t an album you listen to once and forget about it. With all the elements to be considered a classic, the album stands as one of the shining lights of a dim 2023 for Hip-Hop. The Aspiring Me, true to his name, has not only written and performed every song but also self-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the entire project. With features from Fat Tony, Stoppa, T$unami811, Lil B The Basedgod & Jazz musician/hip-hop artist Sen Morimoto, Davis creates a collaborative project that is laced with colorful sounds & some of the most exceptional records I have heard. The album is a testament to the sacrifices made in the name of art, including the seemingly elusive romantic love.
My favorite songs were “Satellite City”, “Super Lift”, & “Kenny”. “Satellite City” features Fat Tony & Stoppa, and it is carried by a dark cinematic feel. The vocal performances were exceptional, and I loved how they vocals sat on the hard-hitting 808s. This was an explosive song that deserves every bit of attention. “Super Lift” is laced with commanding synths, engaging 808s, and it features some of my favorite songwriting on the album. “Kenny” is my personal favorite. Featuring Lil B, “Kenny” is a dynamic record that shines with its emo-trap vibe. The record is laced with choppy-flows and a memorable hook. Overall, this is one of the best albums of the year. If you are looking for new music, look no further.
