When it comes to music, I am always searching for artists/bands that defy genre norms and push the boundaries. I yearn to hear the unheard, and I fight for the those that I believe deserve to have a voice. Although the industry is very saturated, there are these rare times where I come across a diamond in the rough. This week, I was impressed when I came across emerging band Sick Love.

Sick Love is a four-piece band led by the dynamic duo of frontwoman Rebecca Geary & guitarist Conor McLoughlin. They are backed by rhythmic talents of Sean O’Connor & Cormac O’Neill. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Paramore, Blondie, & Hole and Garbage, the band have a refreshing sound that is captivating to its core. Now, they debut on our pages with their debut album “Champagne”.

“Champagne” is a 10-track album carried by raw emotion and social statements. I consider it to be the band’s magnum opus. Laced with rich sounds and dynamic production, the album is a sparkling toast to the exhilarating highs and poignant lows of love & life. With its infectious energy and heartfelt lyricism, "Champagne" is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that leaves listeners craving more. For me, this was everything I wanted in an album. Sick Love didn’t hold back, and they packed a punch in the process.

One of the standout records was “Chill For The Summer”. The single is a poignant response to the escalating violence and sexual assault against women. Over the song’s duration, Gregory shines as she shares a reality that is faced by many women in society. The record is vulnerable, and her lyrics evoke raw emotions that can’t be overlooked. Backed my catchy melodies, the song’s core is amplified. This is what Rebecca had to say about the song:

“I saw a thread of hundreds of people sharing their stories of being attacked by men, all unprovoked and mostly because they rejected them. The line “She wouldn’t even give me her number” is the excuse of the attacker that it’s justified to target women just because they say no to you. We’re always told to “just say no” when it’s not that simple, and can end up with someone being assaulted or even losing their life. Chill For The Summer is about women simply trying to exist without living in fear."

In "Champagne," Sick Love has crafted a debut album that is as intoxicating as the title suggests. With its irresistible melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and electrifying energy, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression and establish Sick Love as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
