Ruark is an American Folk artist that NEEDS to be in your rotation.

With roots that trace back to East Texas, South Arkansas-based folk-rocker, Ruark, has taken the music industry by storm. He is raw, captivating, and his sound is dynamic. Now he debuts on our pages, with his new album ‘Waiting on a Breeze’.

On ‘Waiting on a Breeze’, Ruark’s second album, the singer and guitarist is joined by his home grown band: his wife, Alexa Joyce, on bass and Alexa’s brother, Joseph Bethany, on drums and backing vocals. The collaborative effort provides the album with a warm soulful sound that brings out its sense of intimacy. For me, the album is rich with various sounds that draw influence from folk, Latin, classic pop, and rock. Sonically, the album takes listeners on a journey they won’t want to end, and the production meshes well with the imagery and emotion from the lyrics. Ruark does a great job at painting a picture with his words, and that has made this album very relatable.

The 10-track album is carried by captivating sonics and vocals. Although each song adds a special piece to the album, my favorite songs were “By My Side”, “Out of Ashes”, & “Love Is Destiny”. “By My Side” is introspective breakup record based on a poem from his wife Alexa. The record is laced with reflective lyricism, captivating sonics, and a memorable hook that will have you coming back for more. “Out of Ashes” is my favorite record sonically. I loved the guitar riffs, smooth percussion, and the raspy vocals added a warmth to carry the song home. This is the perfect song to listen to at sunset. Although it’s a heart-wrenching record, I still find comfort in the record. “Love Is Destiny” is a lighter song that is laced with upbeat percussion and bright instrumentation. Overall, this is one of my favorite albums of the year so stream it below!
