With roots that trace back to Mount Vernon, New York, Bronx-raised celebrity chef & rapper, Ed Porter, has been one of the most versatile artists in the industry. Known as Chef Porter, the burgeoning star has captivated audiences with his elite menu creations, his ability to provide immersive dining experiences, and his innate ability to rap with precision. He is a jack of all trades. Music and food are the foundation of his career, and he has proven that he can’t be limited. Now, he enters our pages with his latest album “de zéro”.

The album is a nod to the “golden era” of Hip-Hop, and it is one of the most polarizing projects of the year. While also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the genre, “de zéro” will pull you in immediately. Sonically, the album is exceptional. With production from Grammy-nominated producer Mark Byrd, Chef Porter is able to shine with his songwriting prowess. His lyrics are laced with imagery, witty-lines, and a punch that will keep you coming back for more. He is the gift that keeps on giving. I loved how the album has an old school feel while also incorporating modern & contemporary hip-hop elements. You can tell that the creation of the album was a team effort. With collaboration with CLCII, and astute A&R direction from Amilcar “PRO” Welton of CREATE, this album was destined for greatness.

Among the 16 well-crafted tracks, my favorites were “@ your service” & “Suite Life”. Like the rest of the album, these tracks are laced with unique flows, engaging sonics, and the vocal delivery is in the pocket. I loved Chef Porter’s attention to detail throughout, but these records are just top tier! “Suite Life” has one of the most infectious hooks and I loved the singing on this record. Vocalist Will Jordan proves his star power vocally and has won me over as a fan. The overall build up and story that lies within the song is what stood out. “@ your service” is carried by engaging synths, enticing flows, and I loved the overall pacing of the song. Chef Porter keeps his records simple enough for you to truly grasp what he is saying. I find that to be so unique in a time where it feels like lyrical content is at an all-time low. Overall, this is one of my favorite albums of the year so stream it below!
