When it comes to music, we as listeners yearn for artists that continue to push the boundaries with their craft. We crave for musical pioneers, and we ask that our favorites stay true to the craft. This relationship that artists & their listeners cultivate is something that can’t be overlooked. As a listener myself, I find it harder & harder to find artists making music for the right reasons. However, I recently discovered an artist named Ballsy, and she is one my favorite finds this month.

For those that are new to the burgeoning star, Ballsy is the solo venture of Caveboy’s synth-bassist Isabelle Banos. Banos has taken her influence and inspirations and crafted a sound that teeters between indie-rock & pop. For me, I love the nostalgic feel of her records, and she always finds a away to display her grunge & angsty influences. Now, she enters our pages with her debut EP, “Bisou”.

“Bisou” is more than a debut project. It is Ballsy’s grand introduction to the industry. With a sound that’s a nod to 90s grunge & early 2000s punk rock, the EP stands as a timepiece that draws me back to my youth. Ballsy’s self-produced sound has made me reminisce the past and embrace the hard truths of growing up. This is what music should make you feel. Music is made for people to connect, reminisce, feel, and ultimately embrace. “Bisou” did just that. From the engaging guitar riffs to the anthemic choruses, the project was exceptional. This is what Ballsy had to say about the record:

“This is the record I dreamed of making when I was a lonely teenager teaching myself Green Day covers on my first guitar alone in my bedroom. It’s simple, it’s raw, and it’s filled with imperfections that I would have been too scared to share even just a couple of years ago. I don’t care anymore. This is something I made, from scratch, for me, and I’m really proud of it. It was proudly made entirely from songwriting, to recording, production, mixing, mastering, and artwork by women and gender expansive folks.”

My favorite songs from the EP were “Be Your Baby”, “Holy Water”, & “Wannabe”. Overall, this has been one of my favorite projects this year, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
