Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, emerging electronic producer & mix engineer, astronaut club, has taken the music industry by storm. With over a decade of experience, he has had the time to craft a universal sound that is captivating to all that listen. Sonically, his sound can be described as combining a sparkly electronic sound with trippy elements & fizzy lo-fi synths. The cherry on top is his addition of punchy rap drums & bouncy percussion to round out the overall sound. For me, he is one of the most unique producers out at the moment. Now, he enters our pages with his latest EP “Fit Check”.
“Fit Check” is a genre-bending body of work that explores different sounds and sees him team up with multiple artists. The 8-track project is rich with lush melodies, and it is carried by his dynamic production. For me, “Fit Check” is a great introduction to astronaut club. I loved how he was able to bring multiple artists into his world while also staying true to his own sound.
My favorite songs from the project were “can’t relate”, “larry bird”, & “look alive”. “can’t relate” opens the EP, and it’s carried by a dreamy synth-driven soundscape. The melodic feel allowed DonMonique & Toronto-rapper, Akil Elijah to shine. Both artists delivered exceptional vocals. The unapologetic rap bars were memorable, and the hook had a trippy feel that fit the song to perfection. “larry bird” is carried by dynamic production that features smooth transitions, dramatic buildup, soaring strings, and drums that seal the deal. It was fitting the Massachusetts’s very own DJ Lucas featured on this record. His expressive flows were a great touch to the record. “look alive” is a personal favorite that features BlkSknn. It is a punchy record that’ll have you coming back for more.
